The pace: ahead or behind?
The 2026 line starts with the county’s first count after day 1 of early voting. Until then, the lines show where each midterm stood at the same point.
The share of Harris County's registered voters who had voted early, for every November election since 1996 except 2020. Each year is lined up by days before Election Day, so the same point in early voting sits in the same place, and measured as a share because the county has more than a million more registered voters than in 1996. Midterms are the comparison for 2026.

- In both 2022 and 2024, the first day's count held by far the most mail ballots. In 2024 that was 27,025 of the 57,059 mail ballots returned during early voting.
- Sunday was the slowest day in both years, and the last day was a rush. In 2022 the final Friday brought in 106,677 voters, more than any other day; in 2024 only the first day was busier.
- 2024 had 1.6 times as many early voters as 2022. A midterm is the fairer comparison for 2026.

Each dot is one of Harris County's 75 early voting sites, sized by how many voters have checked in there so far. Any registered voter can use any site, so a big dot is a busy site, not a neighborhood that's voting more.

Early voters so far in the counties around Harris, and the share of each county's registered voters they make up. These numbers come from a different source than the rest of this page: the Texas Secretary of State, which collects each county's totals on that county's own schedule, so some may be a day or more behind, and "not reported yet" means the state's file has no early voters for that county so far. Harris County isn't in this table or in the Texas total; its numbers above come straight from the county.

Each county shaded by the share of its registered voters who have voted early so far. From the Texas Secretary of State, which collects each county's totals on that county's own schedule, so a pale county may simply be behind on reporting. Gray counties have no early voters in the state's file yet. Harris County, outlined, is the one exception: it's shaded from Harris County Elections' own count, the same number as the top of this page, against the state's count of its registered voters.
